Chicago Bon Fest 2022
The Japanese Culture Center and Art Foundation in partnership with the Chicago Parks District, Shubukai and Tsukasa Taiko invite you to the 2022 BON Fest Chicago. The Obon Matsuri / Bon Festival is traditionally held in the peak heat of summer when space between the natural and the supernatural world is thinnest. This is a time when individuals come together to remember ancestors and those lost as a community. As we continue to process the tremendous loss from the COVID-19 pandemic, we welcome our community to come together through the dance. Traditionally, Bon Odori dancing is performed by those in attendance to welcome spirits, each community and region has their own style of dance and music. Asian Improv aRts Midwest is happy to support this event as part of 2022 Year of Chicago Dance.
Bon Fest Chicago is possible only with the support of Fujima Kimiei – Shizuoka, Japan https://kimieifujima.web.fc2.com, Ageha Bijo, Bon Odori Association of Japan https://bon-odori.net/ , and Shubukai’s Fujima Yoshinojo, We will host Bon Odori dance lessons at the Japanese Culture Center, and the Hyde Park Arts Center on 3 Thursdays and Saturdays in July leading up to the fest so you can join in the festival.
